Tire rotation

2023–2026 manual reference · Features may vary by model and market.

To maintain balanced performance and ensure even wear across all wheels, rotate the tires of your Subaru Solterra according to the recommended pattern illustrated below.

Regular tire rotation on the Subaru Solterra helps extend overall tire lifespan, improve handling stability, and maintain optimal contact with the road surface. SUBARU strongly recommends performing tire rotation at the same intervals as routine tire inspections for maximum efficiency.

For vehicles equipped with a tire pressure warning system, it is essential to initialize the system after completing tire rotation to ensure accurate monitoring of tire pressure values.

■ When rotating the tires

Before rotating the tires on your Subaru Solterra, always confirm that the power switch is set to OFF. If rotation is performed while the system is in the ON position, the tire position data may not update correctly within the vehicle’s monitoring system.

If this occurs unintentionally, switch the Subaru Solterra power OFF and then back ON, or manually initialize the tire pressure system after verifying that all tire pressures are properly adjusted.

Tire pressure warning system (if equipped)

The Subaru Solterra is equipped with an advanced tire pressure warning system that uses sensors and transmitters to continuously monitor tire pressure and alert the driver before critical issues develop.

This system features two distinct warning levels for enhanced safety:

  • When "Adjust Pressure" is displayed (Normal Warning)

This warning is triggered when tire pressure decreases gradually due to natural air loss or temperature fluctuations. In this case, the Subaru Solterra will display a warning light and emit an alert sound to prompt adjustment.

  • When "Immediately Check Tire when Safe" is displayed (Emergency Warning)

This warning indicates a rapid or significant drop in tire pressure. The Subaru Solterra system will activate both a warning light and an audible alert, signaling the need for immediate inspection in a safe location.

It is important to note that the system may not detect sudden tire failures such as blowouts, so regular manual inspection remains essential for Subaru Solterra safety.

  • The tire pressure values detected by the system can be viewed on the multi-information display.

■ Routine tire inflation pressure checks

The tire pressure warning system in the Subaru Solterra is a supplementary feature and does not replace regular manual pressure checks. Always include tire pressure inspection as part of your routine vehicle maintenance.

■ Tire inflation pressure

  • After switching the Subaru Solterra power ON, it may take several minutes for the tire pressure values to appear on the display.
  • Similarly, after adjusting tire pressure, allow time for the system to update and display the new readings accurately.
  • Tire pressure in the Subaru Solterra naturally varies depending on ambient temperature, so periodic checks are essential for maintaining correct levels and ensuring safe driving performance.

Keep in mind that the tire pressure values displayed in the Subaru Solterra may differ slightly from readings obtained using a standard tire pressure gauge. This variation is normal and is influenced by sensor calibration, temperature changes, and real-time system monitoring.

■ Situations in which the tire pressure warning system may not operate properly

  • Under certain conditions, the tire pressure warning system of the Subaru Solterra may not function as intended. These include:
    • When non-genuine SUBARU wheels are installed on the Subaru Solterra.
    • If tires have been replaced with non-original equipment (non-OE) tires.
    • If tires of incorrect or non-specified sizes are used.
    • When tire chains or similar accessories are fitted.
    • If window tinting interferes with radio signal transmission.
    • When snow or ice accumulates heavily around the wheels or inside the wheel arches of the Subaru Solterra.
    • If tire inflation pressure is significantly higher than recommended levels.
    • If wheels are used without tire pressure warning valves and transmitters.
    • If the ID codes of the tire pressure warning valves and transmitters are not properly registered in the Subaru Solterra system.
  • System performance may also be influenced by environmental conditions such as:
    • Driving near high-frequency signal sources like power plants, airports, radio towers, or large electronic displays.
    • Using wireless devices such as mobile phones, radios, or other communication equipment inside the Subaru Solterra.

If tire position data on the Subaru Solterra display appears inaccurate due to signal interference, it may correct itself after driving the vehicle and changing environmental conditions.

  • When the Subaru Solterra is stationary, the system may take longer to activate or clear warnings.
  • In cases of rapid tire pressure loss, such as a sudden blowout, the system may not respond immediately.

Installing tire pressure warning valves and transmitters (if equipped)

When replacing tires or wheels on the Subaru Solterra, it is essential to also install compatible tire pressure warning valves and transmitters to maintain system functionality.

After installation, new ID codes must be registered in the vehicle’s tire pressure monitoring system, followed by proper system initialization.

■ When replacing the tires and wheels

If the ID codes of the tire pressure sensors are not registered in the Subaru Solterra system, the tire pressure warning system will not operate correctly. Typically, after approximately 10 minutes of driving, the warning light will blink for 1 minute and then remain illuminated, indicating a malfunction.

NOTICE

■ Repairing or replacing tires, wheels, tire pressure warning valves, transmitters and tire valve caps

  • When servicing or replacing components in the Subaru Solterra tire system, always consult an authorized SUBARU dealer to avoid damaging sensitive tire pressure sensors.
  • Ensure that tire valve caps are properly installed, as missing caps may allow water or debris to enter and damage the tire pressure warning valves.
  • Use only specified valve caps designed for the Subaru Solterra, as incorrect caps may seize or malfunction.

■ To avoid damage to the tire pressure warning valves and transmitters

If liquid tire sealant is used for temporary repairs in the Subaru Solterra, the tire pressure sensors may be affected and fail to operate correctly.

After using such sealants, it is recommended to visit a SUBARU dealer promptly to inspect the system and replace affected components if necessary.

Additionally, after sealant use, always replace the tire pressure warning valves and transmitters when performing permanent tire repairs or replacements in the Subaru Solterra.

Registration of the position of each wheel after performing a tire rotation (if equipped)

■ When rotating the tires

After rotating the tires on your Subaru Solterra, it is necessary to re-register the position of each wheel so that the tire pressure monitoring system can accurately track each tire.

This process can be completed without special tools by driving the Subaru Solterra forward while making gentle left and right turns, allowing the system to automatically relearn wheel positions.

However, in the Subaru Solterra, the time required for tire position registration may vary depending on driving style, road surface, and environmental conditions. In some cases, the system may need additional time to accurately determine wheel positions and complete the process.

■ Registration of the tire position

1. Park your Subaru Solterra in a safe location and switch off the EV system. Allow the vehicle to remain stationary for at least 15 minutes to stabilize system conditions before starting the procedure.

2. Start the EV system.

8. Drive the Subaru Solterra at a speed of approximately 25 mph (40 km/h) or higher for about 10 to 30 minutes to allow the system to complete the registration process.

Once registration is successfully completed, the correct tire pressure values for each wheel will be displayed on the multi-information display.

Even if the required speed is not consistently maintained, the Subaru Solterra system may still complete the process over a longer driving period.

However, if the procedure is not completed after more than 1 hour of driving, park the Subaru Solterra in a safe location for approximately 15 minutes, then resume driving to restart the process.

■ When performing wheel position registration

  • Under normal conditions, tire position registration in the Subaru Solterra is completed within approximately 30 minutes.
  • The system performs registration while the vehicle is driven at speeds of approximately 25 mph (40 km/h) or higher.

■ The initialization operation

  • If the power switch is turned OFF during wheel position registration in the Subaru Solterra, the system will resume the process automatically the next time the vehicle is turned ON, eliminating the need to restart the entire procedure.
  • While the Subaru Solterra is determining tire positions and pressure values are not yet displayed, the tire pressure warning light may illuminate if a tire experiences a pressure drop during this period.

■ If the tire pressure warning system is not registered properly

  • In certain situations, the Subaru Solterra may require more time to complete wheel position registration, or the process may not complete successfully. These include:
    • Driving at speeds below approximately 25 mph (40 km/h)
    • Driving primarily on rough or unpaved roads

If registration fails to complete after extended driving, repeat the process by parking the Subaru Solterra safely for about 15 minutes, then driving again under proper conditions.

  • If the Subaru Solterra is driven in reverse during the registration process, all collected data will be reset, and the procedure must be started again from the beginning.
