Emergency flashers

The emergency flashers in the Subaru Solterra are designed to alert surrounding drivers when the vehicle must be stopped unexpectedly due to a breakdown, hazard, or other urgent situation.

Operating instructions

Press the emergency flasher switch located in the Subaru Solterra cabin.

All turn signal lights will begin flashing simultaneously to clearly indicate a hazard condition.

To deactivate the emergency flashers, press the switch once more.

■ Emergency flashers

  • If the emergency flashers are operated for an extended period while the Subaru Solterra EV system is not in READY mode, the 12-volt battery may gradually discharge.
  • In the event of SRS airbag deployment or a significant rear collision, the Subaru Solterra emergency flashers may activate automatically.

These hazard lights will automatically switch off after approximately 20 minutes. If necessary, they can be manually turned off by pressing the switch twice. Note that automatic activation depends on impact severity and collision conditions.

If your vehicle has to be stopped in an emergency

In rare emergency situations where normal stopping is not possible, follow this procedure to safely bring your Subaru Solterra to a halt.

Stopping the vehicle

1. Firmly press the brake pedal using both feet and maintain steady pressure.

Avoid repeatedly pumping the brake pedal, as this may reduce braking efficiency and increase stopping distance.

2. Move the shift position to N (Neutral).

If the shift position is shifted to N

3. Gradually slow down the Subaru Solterra and steer it to a safe location at the side of the road.

4. Turn off the EV system.

If the shift position cannot be shifted to N

3. Continue applying firm pressure to the brake pedal with both feet to reduce speed as much as possible.

4. To shut down the Subaru Solterra EV system, press and hold the power switch for at least 2 seconds, or press it rapidly three times or more in succession.

5. Bring the vehicle to a complete stop in a safe location away from traffic.

■ If emergency stopped

When the Subaru Solterra is stopped under emergency conditions, certain systems such as air conditioning may operate with reduced functionality to conserve the 12-volt battery.

WARNING

■ If the EV system has to be turned off while driving

Switching off the Subaru Solterra EV system while driving will not eliminate braking or steering capability entirely. However, power steering assistance may be reduced, making steering more difficult depending on battery condition and system load.

Always reduce vehicle speed as much as possible before turning off the EV system.

If the vehicle is submerged or water on the road is rising

The Subaru Solterra is not intended for operation in deep or rising water conditions. Avoid driving through flooded roads, as this can lead to loss of control, electrical damage, or the vehicle becoming stranded.

If there is a risk of the Subaru Solterra being submerged, remain calm and follow these safety steps:

  • If possible, open the door and exit the Subaru Solterra immediately.
  • If the door cannot be opened, use the power window switch to create an escape route.
  • If the window opens, exit the vehicle through the opening carefully.
  • If both doors and windows cannot be opened due to water pressure, remain calm and wait until water enters the cabin and pressure equalizes, then attempt to open the door and exit.

When the external water level rises above approximately half the height of the door, internal pressure may prevent the door from opening.

■ Water level exceeds the floor

If water enters the Subaru Solterra cabin and reaches the floor level, electrical systems may begin to fail. This can result in inoperative power windows, shutdown of the motor system, and inability to move the vehicle.

■ Using an emergency escape hammer*

The Subaru Solterra windshield is constructed from laminated glass, which cannot be broken using a standard emergency hammer.

Side windows are made of tempered glass, which can be shattered using an appropriate emergency tool.

*: For detailed information about compatible emergency escape tools, contact your SUBARU dealer or a certified accessory supplier.

WARNING

■ Caution while driving

Never attempt to drive the Subaru Solterra on flooded roads or in rising water conditions. Doing so may cause the vehicle to become immobilized, flooded, or swept away, creating a life-threatening situation.
